I know you can feel it too...
I know you can feel it too… the way the air feels heavier lately. Public stations we trusted (for our children as well) may be replaced by content that twist the truth. Schools and art spaces are being stripped of history, of culture, of the stories that make us whole. They’re trying to erase the lessons our ancestors fought to pass down. And while they’re rewriting the past, they send armed guards into our streets to intimidate, especially against people of color.
It’s not just politics. It’s in our bodies. It’s in our nervous systems. How many times have I looked to the news.. only to feel my heart sink. This constant tension is meant to exhaust us, to make us too tired to speak, too afraid to act.
But we’re not going to let that happen.
We are going to keep telling our stories, fully, honestly, and without permission. We are going to keep teaching the truth to our children, in our homes, in our art, in every gathering. We will feed each other’s spirits so our hearts stay strong, our joy stays alive, and our minds stay clear.
We will show up for each other, no matter how loud the lies get. We will keep making music, painting walls, writing poems, and marching together. And we will do it all with the courage and love that has carried our people through darker times than these.
They want us silent. We will speak.
They want us erased. We will remember.
They want us afraid. We will love harder.
Hold on to that as we hold on to each other. We are stronger than their fear. We are the ones building the future.
With love and fire,
LaMae
